    Thursday, November 19, 2009, 12pm - 12:50pm
Location: School of Dentistry Room 13-041

It is no secret that times have gotten tough.  We’re earning less, working harder, and struggling to make ends meet.  Existential psychology offers us a way to view this time of crisis as an opportunity for change: trying new things, reviving old interests, and re-evaluating our priorities.  Existential psychologists, Halle Aten and Karen Earnest, will offer ideas from this perspective that can alleviate some of the stress of this difficult time and transform it into positive energy and forward momentum.  During this presentation, you will hear inspiring stories of change, learn new ways to view old problems, and explore possibilities for feeling better, being more productive, and reconnecting with friends and loved ones.  Simply joining us for your lunch hour will be a choice to try something new that may just help!

Early this year, UC President Yudof established a Task Force to review the University’s post-employment benefits.  The University offers competitive pension and retiree health benefits as part of its efforts to attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff, as well as to reward employees for their years of career service.  The Task Force has been charged with developing options for balancing the long-term costs of post-employment benefits with the need to provide competitive total compensation.

Staff Assembly is hosting this lunchtime forum with the Task Force to give staff and retirees the opportunity to learn about the Task Force’s activities, including an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. To learn more about the mission and charge of the Task Force, visit the Future of UC Retirement Benefits website at: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/ucrpfuture/welcome.html.

UC retirees are welcome to attend this Staff Assembly session.
