Professional Development

In support of the mission of the University of California it is the purpose of the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) to maintain and enhance communication within the University Community on matters of interest to staff employees in accordance with California laws and Regent policy. The current UCLA Staff Assembly President & President-Elect serve as 2 delegates representing UCLA on CUCSA.

The My UC Career online development portal is available to all UC faculty, academic personnel, staff and students seeking to advance their career. Six self-paced modules help users discover their internal UC career mobility options, highlight accomplishments and identify how they can achieve their career goals.

Staff can nominate someone for an Excellence Award, sit in on professional development workshops, or attend the annual AMG Leadership Conference. AMG is dedicated to the professional development of managers on campus, and those who aspire to be managers. Leadership opportunities are available through joining the Executive Board.

At UCLA BruinTech, staff can volunteer for programs which promote digital citizenship on campus, or join a community-led interest group targeting specific issues in the IT realm.

Staff Assembly promotes the interests and well-being of all staff employees and is a community that connects staff with leadership (at UCLA and UC systemwide), resources, opportunities to get involved on campus, and each other. There are also opportunities to serve on the Executive Board and grow your network!

Staff Groups

APIFSA (Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association) started toward the end of 2020 for the purpose of engaging and informing faculty & staff on the various cultures represented in the Asian Pacific Islander community. As a staff affinity group, we are focused on building community and sharing cultural knowledge and insights with the entire Bruin family and beyond. We welcome faculty & staff of all backgrounds to learn, share, and grow with us.

The mission of the Black Staff and Faculty Association (BSFA) is centered on serving our members and other constituents through networking, educational, cultural, and professional development activities to enhance community building as well as to support retention and advancement of Black staff and faculty (and other underrepresented populations).

The Latino Staff & Faculty Association hosts socials, networking events, workshops, and an annual posada! The Latino Staff & Faculty Association (LSFA) was founded as a professional organization dedicated to empower, support, and assist in the professional development, advancement, and upward mobility of, primarily Latino, staff and faculty through networking and education at the UCLA campus.

Retiree Resources

Find out about tours, bi-monthly technology workshops and other cool events for UCLA retirees! The UCLA Emeriti/Retirees Relations Center serves the retired faculty and staff communities through advocacy, education and personalized services pre- and post- retirement, creates strategic partnerships between the university, emeriti and retirees, and seeks to enrich the quality of life in retirement at UCLA.

The UCLA Retirees Association provides retirees opportunities to connect with UC colleagues/friends, events such as educational programs, trips to regional attractions or performances and social events such as the popular holiday luncheon, special interest groups such as travel, book clubs, cooking, and more!

Giving Back

On top of saving lives, UCLA employees also can receive a Certificate of Blood Donation that will entitle them to 4 hours of Comp time when they donate blood at the UCLA Blood & Platelet Center.

UCLA Employees and staff can give back to the community by getting involved with the UCLA Volunteer Center. Opportunities range from volunteer projects, speaking to students with special needs, or even taking care of the feral cats on campus.

Campus Partners

Bruin Health Pharmacy is located on the A-Level of Ackerman Union, A-250, and is available to UCLA faculty & staff with qualifying HealthNet Blue & Gold and UC Care insurance plans. We offer a full range of prescription medications in addition to over 70 over-the-counter medications. Unlike other healthcare facilities, Bruin Health Pharmacy serves only the UC community. As such, Bruin Health Pharmacy and our clinical staff are a unique team that is here to support you in all of your healthcare needs.

The Chancellor’s Office manages UCLA’s $7.5-billion budget and its more than 43,000 students, 4,300 faculty and 42,000 employees. The chancellor also plays a vital external role, serving as a thought leader and working with colleagues around the world to address challenges and opportunities both at UCLA and in public higher education.

The UCLA LGBT Faculty-Staff Network hosts socials and educational events about issues important to LGBT faculty and staff, while also advocating for equality in all areas of campus life. The email list is confidential and membership is not indicative of one’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

The UCLA Alumni Career Network is a high-impact, online series designed to provide UC alumni and community members with the insights, information, and connections to launch, grow and expand your career opportunities.

Take classes at UCLA Extension to further your education, earn a certificate, or just to learn something interesting.

Find out about free work site wellness classes and lifestyle improvement programs for staff, as well as the UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center. The Health Campus Initiative also has an annual celebration featuring free food, performances, and prizes.

The IT Security Office can provide general consulting services to your department or office in encryption support, risk assessment, incident response, and more as well as providing technological assistance.

UCLA Recreation offers a wide array of fitness classes and activities, as well as an exclusive recreation environment for UCLA graduate students and faculty/staff at the Kinross Recreation Center (KREC).

UCLA Sustainability can help you learn how to make your office more sustainable, volunteer, or apply to be on a sustainability committee or taskforce. UCLA Sustainability also hosts an annual Green Gala to honor those who have made significant contributions to sustainability, open to everyone in the UCLA community.

UCLA Transportation supports the campus community by providing sustainable transportation programs that help Bruins get to, from, and around campus. Transportation choices offered include an online trip planning tool, walking and bicycling programs, a discounted carpool parking permit, vanpool program, subsidized public transit passes, and a benefits and incentives program for alternative transportation users. In addition to providing commuter assistance and parking services, the department also offers the complimentary BruinBus transit service, BruinAccess paratransit service, UCLA Safe Ride evening service, and campus vehicle services like BruinCar.

The University is governed by The Regents, which under Article IX, Section 9 of the California Constitution has “full powers of organization and governance” subject only to very specific areas of legislative control. The article states that “the university shall be entirely independent of all political and sectarian influence and kept free therefrom in the appointment of its Regents and in the administration of its affairs.” Dates and locations of scheduled Regents meetings can be found here.
