Vice President, Records & Archives

Bryan Pitts is Vice President of Records and Archives for UCLA Staff Assembly. He has also served as a staff representative on the UCLA Committee on LBGTQ Affairs and as a member of the International Institute’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. As part of the Staff Assembly Executive Board, he looks forward to developing a system for archiving records that preserves institutional memory and enables Staff Assembly to fully take advantage of past experiences.

Bryan is assistant director of the UCLA Latin American Institute. He earned his Ph.D. in Latin American history from Duke University (2013) and an M.A. in Latin American studies from Vanderbilt University (2006). He is the author of Until the Storm Passes: Politicians, Democracy, and the Demise of Brazil’s Military Dictatorship (University of California Press, 2023), as well as numerous articles on politics, gender, and sexuality in Brazil in academic journals and media outlets in both Brazil and the United States.

In his free time, Bryan enjoys participating in BHIP, UCLA’s employee weight training program. He also takes advantage of Southern California’s perfect weather as a hiker and avid cyclist. And he is a hardcore New Orleans Saints fan and has attended Saints games around the country.
