Awards and Scholarships Nominations

Chancellor’s Excellence in Service Award

Eligibility

Any UCLA career or full-time contract employee (policy-covered, clerical bargaining unit, or Skilled Crafts bargaining unit) with at least five years of UCLA employment may be nominated to receive the Chancellor’s Excellence in Service Award. Students, faculty, current Staff Assembly Executive Board members, and previous recipients of the award are not eligible.

Nominees must have sustained a record of excellence during their employment, demonstrated outstanding citizenship in the University and the community, and are committed to further developing the goals of the University.

Criteria

  • Demonstrates service impact reflecting a strong commitment to the University’s mission of teaching, research, community service, and patient care.
  • Initiative, innovation, and creativity.
  • Visionary leadership.
  • Outstanding citizenship and community support.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction with recognition as a role model.
  • Significant contributions to the achievement of broad-based organizational goals, such as work process improvements, enhancement of teamwork, business results, etc.
  • Champions inclusiveness, diversity, and cultural competency at all levels, creating a meaningful work experience for everyone.

Faculty/Staff Partnership Award

Eligibility

All UCLA Faculty members who do not hold staff appointments are eligible for the award.

Criteria

  • Commitment to the values of collaboration and collegiality as demonstrated by developing partnerships with staff.
  • Acknowledging and showing recognition of staff accomplishments.
  • Proven record of mentoring non-academic staff.
  • Career of service reflecting a strong commitment to the University’s mission of teaching, research, community service, and patient care.
  • Visionary leadership, initiative, innovation and creativity, and significant accomplishments.

Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award

Eligibility

Staff members who hold positions designated as non-represented full time career staff. Previous award winners will not be eligible for three (3) academic years. Current Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) delegates, CUCSA leadership, or Staff Advisors to the Regents are not eligible.

Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award

The Kevin McCauley Memorial Outstanding Staff Award is designed to recognize a staff member at the University who is supportive and inclusive of UC Staff, and encourage equity, diversity, and community/collaboration, are forward thinking, and do not compromise quality. This special award is named in memory of Kevin McCauley, former Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the University, in recognition of his many years of service to UC and his dedication to building partnerships and increasing UCOP staff engagement with the local community. The winner of this UCLA award will serve as UCLA’s nominee for the systemwide recognition at the Council of University of California Staff Assemblies (CUCSA).

Instruction

  • Complete this form and attach any supporting materials that outlines your nominee’s excellence in each of the categories below.
  • Support of Staff – Examples include: volunteering for staff events, organizing staff, providing for staff needs that are otherwise unmet by your campus.
  • Communication with Staff – Examples could include: town halls, brown bag lunches, emails to the campus, etc.
  • Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Community/Collaboration – Examples include: participating in specific events or forums to support equity, diversity, and campus community building programs
  • Support of Local Staff Assembly – Examples could include: volunteering with Staff Assembly, leadership roles in Staff organizations.
  • Support of System wide initiatives that affect staff – Examples include: System wide committee service, Multi campus initiatives • Other – Feel free to include other activities you feel are pertinent to this award. Examples are volunteerism in the local community.

Process

  • Nominations may be submitted by faculty, staff, or students. The Award Committee will verify eligibility of all nominees.
  • The head of the nominee’s department will be notified of all nominations.
  • All nominations must include at least ONE (1) letter of recommendation that outlines the nominee’s excellence in each of the categories above. The nomination packet should not exceed a maximum of THREE (3) pages.
  • Nominations must be received no later than Friday, April 28, 2023 at 5:00 pm.

  • The recipient of the award will be honored at the 2023 Staff Assembly’s Awards Recognition Celebration.

Eligibility

Any UCLA career, full-time limited, or full-time contract employee with at least one year of employment by July 1, 2023 may apply for a Staff Assembly Scholarship.  Once someone receives a scholarship, they are ineligible for the next 5 years. Once the 5 years is over, they can apply again.

Criteria

  • How the Scholarship Relates to the Applicant’s Career Plan
  • Benefit to University – Personal Commitment to Completion of Specified Program
  • Initiative, Innovation, & Creativity
  • Written Communication Skills
  • For Healthy Campus Initiative (HCI) scholarships, Demonstrate HCI goals and values (https://www.healthy.ucla.edu/guiding-principles/)

Scholarships may be used for registration or enrollment fees at:

  • Courses required for certification
  • Courses required for degree attainment if related to current position or career development
  • Conferences, seminars, and workshops (excluding travel expenses)
  • Books for career development

Scholarships may NOT be used for:

  • Travel (no exceptions)
  • Courses required for your current position
