Bryan Pitts
Chief Advocacy Officer
Bryan Pitts is Chief Advocacy Officer for UCLA Staff Assembly.
He has also served as VP of Records and Archives for Staff Assembly (2025-2025), as a staff representative on the UCLA Committee on LBGTQ Affairs (2023-2025), and as a member of the International Institute’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (2020-2023).
Bryan is assistant director of the UCLA Latin American Institute. He earned his Ph.D. in Latin American history from Duke University (2013) and an M.A. in Latin American studies from Vanderbilt University (2006). He is the author of Until the Storm Passes: Politicians, Democracy, and the Demise of Brazil’s Military Dictatorship (University of California Press, 2023), as well as numerous articles on politics, gender, and sexuality in Brazil in academic journals and media outlets in both Brazil and the United States.
He is excited about advocating for both unrepresented and represented staff with university leadership regarding issues such as the effects of federal and state funding cuts on salary security and mandatory vacation days during winter closure, as well as partnering with fellow staff to give voice to their concerns.
In his free time, Bryan enjoys participating in BHIP, UCLA’s employee weight training program. He is also an avid hiker and cyclist. And he is a hardcore New Orleans Saints fan and has attended Saints games around the country.
